St. Radigunds ward in Dover has been my home for 25 years. It is a friendly community and one which is always there to help each other out. My children were educated at the local school and I have proudly served as its Ward Councillor for nearly 10 years.
That is not to say it doesn’t have its challenges. Families here look out for each because they know what it is like to struggle. Poverty is a cruel word to use in the 21st century but it is still a huge problem and one that is not getting resolved. Our young people need confidence, aspiration and skills to help them make the best of themselves.
St. Radigunds Community Centre was built at the top of Ward by its community in 2003 with grant funding. Its defining feature is the impressive large hall, with its beautiful mural featuring handprints from local children. Since then it provided a place where families can come together, take strength from each other and contribute to the area. Today it houses a Children’s Centre and the Royal British Legion Industries Charity, delivering services to support not just St. Radigunds but Dover and beyond. The volunteers are holding events and activities, including a Youth Group throughout the year and several Health and Wellbeing services operate out of the facilities. It is an honour to work alongside these volunteers and provide encouragement as the Centres Patron, giving my valuable insight into what is really important to take back to the political arena.
Today, with grant funding harder to win, the volunteers who run the centre do most of work in the centre themselves, and I ask that if you can give any support, be you individual or local business, you make contact with them and help them to keep this fabulous asset available to the community we all share long into the future.

Dover Town Council makes a substantial new investment in St Radigunds Community Centre
Andrew Sanalitro, Chair of Radigunds said: “We are delighted the Town Council has given us a vital grant to refit out toilets area. This new investment means an area which was not up to standard can now be refitted from scratch. The Trustees are very grateful to Dover Town Council for this new grant”.
